Satellite and cellular radio frequency (RF) signals are susceptible to noise, multipath, and hardware errors, which can hinder their effectiveness. More importantly, they may be transmitted over different satellites or cellular towers from the received signal. One way to compensate for these effects is to select a subset of receive antennas that are insensitive to noise, multipath, and hardware error, and are correlated with received signals. This article introduces the minimum-energy adaptive reduced-rank (EAR) algorithm for jointly estimating the transmit signal and the set of antennas. The EAR algorithm is robust to noise, multipath, and hardware errors, and it also permits a joint optimization of the rank and number of antennas. Unlike existing algorithms, the EAR algorithm can estimate the transmit signal vector, the number of antennas, and the number of subspace signatures (i.e., rank and column vectors) and, moreover, it can be realized using a low-complexity iterative procedure. We also show that the original, centralized EAR algorithm can be made resilient to noise and hardware-error correlations.Long-Term Effects of a Real-Time Feedback Intervention on Glycemic Control of Patients With Type 2 Diabetes in the US Outpatient Setting.
To evaluate the short- and long-term efficacy of a real-time feedback diabetes management system (Re-FRAME, LivaNova, Madrid, Spain) for glycemic control of type 2 diabetes patients. We analyzed data from patients enrolled between June 2013 and June 2014 in a prospective, randomized, open-label, single-arm study with a baseline visit (visit 1) and a second visit (visit 2) after 10 months. In a multivariate regression analysis, we evaluated a decrease in hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) (visit 1 versus visit 2) as the primary outcome. We analyzed data for 209 patients at visit 1, and data for 107 patients at visit 2. Patients received a feedback on blood glucose levels (BG) to address specific clinical problems, which was graphically displayed on the mobile phone screen and transmitted in real time (40, 70, 100, and 140 minutes) as message alerts.
